East Hazel Crest, IL – The Illinois State Black Chamber of Commerce (ILBCC) kicked off the year with a powerful Networking Membership Drive at Wind Creek Casino in East Hazel Crest, bringing together nearly 100 business professionals, entrepreneurs, and advocates dedicated to strengthening Black business success.
Hosted by ILBCC Chairman Larry Ivory, with Robert Johnson and Ladonna Raeh serving as emcees, the evening provided an atmosphere of connection, collaboration, and empowerment. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with ILBCC leadership, gain insights into the Chamber’s mission, and network with like-minded individuals committed to economic growth within Black communities.

Chamber President Larry Ivory underscored the event’s importance, stating, "Your network determines your net worth, and I think my net worth just went up!" His words resonated with many in the room, highlighting the Chamber’s commitment to creating pathways for success.

Mara Morris, Executive Assistant to the ILBCC President, echoed this sentiment, calling the event a resounding success: "We accomplished exactly what we always set out to do. We created an environment to connect Black business owners with other businesses, resources, and opportunities so that they can thrive! We have a lot more planned for our members this year. This is a truly exciting time for the Chamber!"
The evening wasn’t just about business—it was a celebration of progress. Pierre Cooper, President and Director of Sales at WVON Radio, took the stage to emphasize the power of media and advocacy in supporting Black businesses.
Another highlight of the program was the dynamic presentation by power couple Andre and Francis Guichard, Chamber members who spoke about their recent Trade Mission with the ILBCC to Zimbabwe. Their insights into international business opportunities and global networking emphasized the Chamber’s commitment to expanding economic possibilities for Black entrepreneurs beyond U.S. borders.

Wind Creek Hospitality’s Cathye Amos, Casino Relationship Marketing Director, welcomed guests and ensured they enjoyed the evening, complete with a delicious selection of food and hospitality.
Reflecting on the event, Catrice Armstrong, Founder & CEO of PR Werks, shared a personal takeaway: “Attending the ILBCC Networking/Membership Drive allowed me the opportunity to meet new people and find out more about their mission and purpose. I left the event feeling reassured that we still have people advocating for our placement and position. And in today’s current climate, this is the reassurance needed to move forward and onward.”

With a successful launch to its networking efforts in 2024, the ILBCC continues to serve as a driving force for economic empowerment, ensuring Black businesses remain connected, supported, and equipped for growth.
